Help and Search Tips
for the Bibliography of Student Financial Aid
The Bibliography allows users to search for research articles and reports on student financial aid. Users may search for articles based on the author, subject (or Keyword), year of publication (PubYear), or one or more words in the article’s title.
The search terms and criteria you are interested in should be typed into the "Term" and "Search by" boxes on the Bibliography page. For example, if you need to find articles written by Donald Heller in 1999, in the "Term 1" box you would type the author’s last name, Heller, and in the Search By menu next to it, you would select Author. In the Term 2 box, type 1999 and in the Search By menu select PubYear. Once your search criteria are selected, hit the gray Submit button to generate your results. In this example, you will get abstracts for the articles in the Bibliography that were published by Donald Heller in 1999.
To search for a subject (or Keyword), such as grants, type the word grants in the Term 1 box, then in the Search By menu select Keyword. With this search, you would obtain all of the articles in which the word "grants" appears in the abstract. You may also search for a subject or keyword by year the articles were published. For example, if you wanted articles on grants that were published in 2000, you would type grants as the Keyword in the Term 1 box then type 2000 in Term 2 and select PubYear.
You may search for subjects with multiple words, such as student loans, by using single quotes around the words of the subject you want to search. For example, to look for articles on student loans written in 1999, type ‘student loans’ as the Keyword in the Term 1 box and then 1999 (without quotes) as the PubYear in the Term 2 box. Single quotes may also be used to search for authors with multiple-word last names, such as ‘St. John,’ and to search by authors full name rather than just last name, such as ‘Donald Heller.’
