Federal Student Aid: What's Next?
NASFAA's Director of Public Policy and Federal Relations Megan McClean appears on the blog EdTalkRadio, where she discusses the future of federal student aid. During the program, McClean said that on the Hill, federal student aid programs and their funding "are really caught up in the larger ... fiscal mayhem going on right now," including sequestration. The focus of NASFAA's policy efforts right now is the "big picture issues" and "knowing that they could very really and very easily shake down and impact our programs. ... Unfortunately it's a little hard to predict right now how things will shake out but from our standpoint we really just keep hitting home the message of how important the programs are, how they impact the students, and how for many students, especially with the Pell grant, it makes a difference in whether or not they can go to postsecondary education," McClean said.
