Financial Aid Professionals at Work:
SUFAPPP 2001

The 2001 Survey of Undergraduate Financial Aid Policies, Practices, and Procedures (SUFAPPP) is the fourth in a series of studies on the processes used by on-campus aid administrators to award financial assistance to undergraduates. The SUFAPPP is sponsored by NASFAA and The College Board. The 2001 survey found that, in 1999-2000, most undergraduate student aid recipients received federal loans, while relatively few received Federal Pell Grants. The SUFAPPP also revealed that the plurality of institutional grants were awarded based on academic merit and other “non-need-based” purposes; that a wide gap in salaries exists between men and women in the financial aid profession; and that many aid offices have small staffs that must serve more students who seek financial assistance.
