National Training for Counselors and Mentors (NT4CM) planning is currently underway for academic year 2009-10, and NT4CM would like to confirm your state's interest and/or commitment by July 30, 2008. Early enrollment will ensure your state can take full advantage of the resources we will be offering this year.
NT4CM works with states to help provide free training and support for those who assist students and their families in preparing financially for college. NT4CM is brought to you by the U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), and the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP).
NT4CM participation is voluntary and is intended to supplement, not replace, your state's current high school counselor financial aid training programs. The curriculum is also customizable, and has been designed to be tailored to the training needs of your state. For example, your state may opt to incorporate the FAFSA4caster and ACG modules into an existing curriculum instead of presenting the entire NT4CM program.
As a participant, your organization would help to determine locations and dates and collaborate with other organizations in your state (such as Guarantee Agencies) to increase resources and state coverage. In addition, the participating organizations staff sessions and assist in program promotion and implementation. Opportunities are also available to conduct training sessions. (All NT4CM trainers are required to participate in a Webinar that provides an overview of the curriculum and tips for delivery. This Webinar will take place in August.)
The NT4CM pilot program received very positive reviews and an overwhelming number of participants were extremely pleased with the training sessions. Visit www.fsa4counselors.ed.gov/trainers to view a fact sheet, pilot program evaluation summary, and the pilot program curriculum.
For participation information or questions, please contact Jennifer Martin, NASFAA Assistant Director of Professional Assessment, Training, and Regulatory Assistance, or email NT4CM directly at nt4cm@ed.gov.
