NASFAA "Parent and Student Guide to Federal Tax Benefits for Tuition and Fees" for Tax Year 2006

NASFAA's Parent and Student Guide to Federal Tax Benefits for Tuition and Fees provides students, parents, counselors, and others with general guidance to federal education-related tax benefits. The Guide includes basic information about the Hope Scholarship tax credit, the Lifetime Learning tax credit, and the Tuition and Fees Tax Deduction. Parents and students requiring more detailed information may wish to consult IRS resources (the Guide includes links to several related IRS publications) or a financial advisor. The PDF version requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader and is the preferred version if you wish to print the Guide. This document was updated for tax year 2006 on February 1, 2007.

Please note that if you wish to direct parents and students to this document, it is best to use the address http://www.StudentAid.org/TaxBenefitsPSIntro.html. It links to the same information, but is presented without the NASFAA Member Web site's top and side information.
