Financial Aid in the News

North Carolina: CharlotteLaw Offering Deferred Fee, Tuition Options (Charlotte Business Journal)

"For students who have to wait for federal student loans, Charlotte School of Law says it will wait with them. The for-profit law school says it will defer fall semester tuition and fees for students requiring federally guaranteed loans. The move is expected to benefit about 35 students," the Charlotte Business Journal reports. "The decision comes amid turmoil in the student-loan market, which has been impacted by the national credit crunch. As investor appetite for securitized student loans has dropped along with other securities, 124 lenders have suspended or exited the federal student-loan business. Nearly 30 lenders have suspended making private loans, according to FinAid, a Web site that tracks the industry. The declining number of lenders and tighter underwriting standards in the private-loan sector hit students of CharlotteLaw, as it is informally known."
