Opinion: Ensuring Access To Student Loans (The New York Times)
"It is not about student loans - it's about access to postsecondary education, which for many students unfortunately entails borrowing to pay for their education," writes NCHELP President Brett Lief in The New York Times. "For many schools, the direct loan program will provide that assurance, but the government's role should not be in support of either the Federal Family Education Loan Program or the direct loan program. It should be in support of the students who require this assistance. Within the next 90 days, $60 billion will be required to ensure that students receive the funds they need this fall. That is where our shared focus should be."
