Responding to the stream of refugees flowing into Florida's Panhandle, Pensacola Junior College joins fellow colleges in waiving tuition and offering free books and materials to victims of Hurricane Katrina staying in the greater Pensacola area.
Students can register for Fall Session C that runs Sept. 13 through Dec. 16, and Fall Session D that runs Oct. 19 through Dec. 16.
"We fully understand that students who have lost everything may want to return to some sense of normalcy, and we are doing everything we can to accommodate displaced students," says PJC President Tom Delaino.
Escambia County has a host shelter that accommodates 500 people long-term and negotiations for additional Northwest Florida sites are being pursued, according to the American Red Cross of Northwest Florida.
