About the Leadership Conference

What: 2015 NASFAA Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo
Where: March 1-3, 2015

Since 1971, NASFAA has offered a leadership conference to provide intensive preparation for NASFAA members who hold leadership positions and those about to assume such positions. While the original name of the conference has been modified over the years and the content expanded, the purpose of the conference remains the same: to deliver knowledge, perspective, and insight into management issues facing current and future financial aid leaders.

If you are a financial aid administrator who wants to grow professionally, expand your network, and become a leader on campus, in your association, or in your profession, this conference is designed for you. 

Choose Your Leadership Pathway

In 2015, attendees can choose from two separate leadership pathways:

The New & Aspiring Aid Directors Pathway

Added this year as a result of feedback and demand from NASFAA members, this two-day pathway (March 1-2) is perfect for those who want to grow their management skills so they can run a financial aid office efficiently. A special task force of seasoned aid directors from various institutions is meeting in the fall to develop the agenda, so please check back soon for more details.

The third day of the conference (March 3) is dedicated to Capitol Hill visits, which is optional for New & Aspiring Aid Directors. Attendees will make scheduled visits to Capitol Hill to advocate directly with their congressional delegation on behalf of their students. Participation in pre-conference preparation activities is required. When you register for the conference, you will be given the opportunity to opt-in to this day. There is no additional cost to participate.

The Association Management Pathway 

This pathway will provide incoming and future state and regional leaders, or those who aspire to a volunteer leadership role, with preparation for a successful year in office, including:

  • Understanding legal, financial, and management issues every leader needs to know;
  • Identifying the characteristics of leadership;
  • Leading and managing change and transition within the association; and
  • Exchanging ideas with state and regional colleagues.

On the third day of the conference, attendees will make scheduled visits to Capitol Hill to advocate directly with their congressional delegation on behalf of their students. Participation in pre-conference preparation activities with NASFAA President Justin Draeger and Director of Public Policy Megan McClean is required. When you register for this pathway, you are automatically registered for the Capitol Hill visits.

In addition to the two pathways, the conference will offer plenty of networking opportunities so you can get to know your colleagues, as well as an Expo featuring industry partners with products and services directly related to the conference programming content.
