Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, UMBC President, to Speak at Opening Session

WASHINGTON, DC, May 31, 2013 – Media covering higher education, student financial aid, and planning and paying for college should save the date for the 2013 National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ (NASFAA) conference, held July 14-17 at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Attendees will kick off their conference experience with a keynote address by Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, president of University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). In 2012, Time Magazine named Hrabowski one of the Top 100 most influential people in the world, lauding him for “turning a humble commuter school into one of the nation's leading sources of African Americans who get PhDs in science and engineering.” Dr. Hrabowski will share his unique perspectives and will leave attendees feeling inspired and motivated.

Attendees will also hear from financial aid thought-leaders including NASFAA President Justin Draeger, who will address crucial higher education issues related to student financial aid, including funding for programs, ensuring access and success for all students and ideas for policy reform.

In addition to the keynote sessions, more than 120 sessions in 16 different subject-matter tracks will provide valuable information for any attendee. Tracks include:

  • Communication, Leadership & Student Aid Management
  • Consumer Information and Customer Service
  • Diversity Issues/Student Access & Success
  • Enrollment Management
  • Financial Literacy
