Postsecondary Education Financing Forum

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016, NASFAA hosted a Postsecondary Education Financing Forum in New York City on the campus of New York University.

Along with NASFAA, the event was sponsored by the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (EASFAA) and the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA).

College cost has become a key issue this election cycle, with candidates talking openly about subsidizing some or all of a public college education. As costs continue to climb, NASFAA recognizes the need to convene thought leaders in the field of higher education to discuss why college costs so much and what can be done to reduce indebtedness and simplify repayment. Together, we explored policy issues surrounding the financing of postsecondary education at a forum event to be held in our country's financial capital, New York City.

Opening remarks were provided by former Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter. Other speakers included:

  • Justin Draeger, president of NASFAA
  • James Partridge, senior economist and associate director, Moody’s Analytics
  • David Lucca, research officer, Federal Reserve Bank of New York
  • Dr. Bob Archibald, chancellor professor of economics, College of William and Mary
  • Kevin James, director of higher education, Jain Family Institute
  • Marc Jerome, executive vice president, Monroe College
  • Megan McClean Coval, NASFAA vice president of Policy & Federal Relations
  • Representatives from Berkeley College, the State University of New York (SUNY) system, and the City University of New York (CUNY) system
