NASFAA Recommends Changes to School Listing Notification on Draft 15-16 FAFSA

Karen McCarthy, NASFAA Federal Relations Staff

In written comments submitted last week on the second draft of the 2015-16 paper Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), NASFAA recommends a modification to the proposed notification to the applicant regarding the school listing.

In response to concerns about use of the school listing on the Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) for packaging purposes, the second draft of the FAFSA includes the following new text on the “School Selection” page: “All of the information you report on the FAFSA will be sent to each college listed, including the names of the other colleges listed.  If you don’t want this information sent to a particular college, do not list that school on your FAFSA.”

NASFAA recommends removal of the second sentence of the notification, since it can be easily misinterpreted to suggest that it is possible for a school to receive all of an applicant’s FAFSA data, except the school list.

Doesn't this mean that the school won't get the FAFSA data at all. Then the student won't get a FA package. This does not make sense. I agree that the sentence should be removed.
