Subject: Upcoming Distribution of 2017-2018 Renewal FAFSA® Reminders

The distribution of 2017-2018 Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) Reminders by the Central Processing System (CPS) will occur between January 16-25, 2017. For your convenience, the email text is included with this announcement.

As described in the December 13, 2016 electronic announcement posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website, Renewal Reminder email notifications are sent to students who are renewal-eligible for 2017-2018 and qualified for reminders by December 23, 2016. Eligible students must have a valid email address on their 2016-2017 record to receive a 2017-2018 Renewal Reminder email.

Encouraging Students to Complete a FAFSA

In addition to sending Renewal Reminder e-mails, Federal Student Aid utilizes social media to encourage returning students to complete a FAFSA each year.  Easy-to-use digital and social media resources for FAFSA outreach are available on the Financial Aid Toolkit. The toolkit offers a variety of fact sheets, tips, videos, Facebook posts, tweets, infographics and useful blog posts all in one spot.

Available Resources

On our social media sites, we post information for students and families on many topics, including FAFSA completion. We encourage you to share or retweet anything from our social media accounts. Feel free to follow, use and personalize any of the information we post.

Federal Student Aid encourages financial aid administrators, high school counselors, and anyone advocating on behalf of students seeking financial assistance for postsecondary education to visit Federal Student Aid’s Financial Aid Toolkit for information and ideas on how to spread the word to students. Among the items available on the website are presentations, fact sheets, infographics and videos all easily accessible via an in-depth search engine. If you would like to see all FAFSA-related resources, you can conduct a search on the Financial Aid Toolkit’s search resources page or you can view a PDF that lists available resources. Feel free to take advantage of any and all materials available on the site and to customize the materials to meet the needs of your institution.
