Longtime TN Senator to Address 2,000+ Financial Aid Professionals at Nashville’s Music City Center
WHO: Attendees of the 2014 NASFAA National Conference—nearly 2,500 financial aid professionals from higher education institutions all across the U.S.—will be joined by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and longtime education advocate.
WHEN: Alexander will address members of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) at a Monday, June 30 luncheon, to be held noon to 1:15pm.
WHERE: Music City Center (Ballroom BC) in Nashville, TN. The Music City Center is located at 201 5th Ave S, Nashville, TN, 37203.
WHY ATTEND?: On June 18, Alexander and Democratic Senator Michael Bennet (CO), introduced the Financial Aid Simplification and Transparency (FAST) Act. The bill, designed to simplify the process of applying for and receiving federal financial aid to attend college, would allow year-round use of Pell Grants, discourage over-borrowing and simplify repayments. The FAST ACT includes several issues that NASFAA has been advocating for on Capitol Hill.
In addition, with the Obama administration’s proposed college ratings system percolating, reauthorization of the Higher Education Act on the horizon, and the growing national student debt burden, NASFAA’s 2014 National Conference is sure to be a hotbed of discussions that will fascinate and engage members of the media, financial aid professionals, college administrators, and anyone interested in student financial aid. Don’t miss out!
