5-13: Issue Alert: EDExpress 2016-2017, Release 2.0 Update Available to Resolve Issue with Summary Information in Direct Loan Disbursement Lists

Subject: Issue Alert: EDExpress 2016-2017, Release 2.0 Update Available to Resolve Issue with Summary Information in Direct Loan Disbursement Lists

We have identified an issue in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) module of EDExpress for Windows 2016-2017, Release 2.0 that causes inaccurate summary information to be printed on the final page of the List–Anticipated Disbursements and List–Actual Disbursements reports. The inaccurate information includes total disbursement amounts and record counts for the Direct Loan records included on the reports.

We have posted an updated program file to the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site (located at https://www.fsadownload.ed.gov) to resolve this issue in Release 2.0. See the sections below for guidance on loading this program file to your system.

Note: If you do not use the EDExpress 2016-2017 Direct Loan module, you may disregard this information.

Loading the EDExpress Program File to Your System

You can resolve the Release 2.0 issue causing inaccurate summary information to be printed on the Direct Loan List–Anticipated Disbursements and List–Actual Disbursements reports by downloading and saving a dynamic link library (DLL) file called DLReport17.dll to your EDExpress 2016-2017 workstations.

The DLReport17.dll file should be copied into the EDExpress for Windows 2016-2017 program directory of all PC workstations in your office that have Release 2.0 installed. You will need to overwrite the existing version of the DLReport17.dll file installed with Release 2.0 with the newer version posted to the FSAdownload Web site.

To download the DLReport17.dll program file, go to https://www.fsadownload.ed.gov, click the “Software and Associated Documents” link, and select “EDExpress for Windows 2016-2017, Release 2.0.” On the “EDExpress 2016-2017” page, you can initiate the download of the program file by clicking the “DLReport17.dll” link under the “Software” section.

You will receive a message asking if you want to open the file or save it to your computer. You should choose to save the file to your computer. Save the DLReport17.dll to the program folder for EDExpress for Windows 2016-2017 on each PC running Release 2.0. For most users, this is the default folder of C:\Program Files\EDESuite\EDExpress for Windows 2016-2017 (unless you changed this location during the installation process).

You do not need to reboot your PCs when the copy procedure is complete to resume using EDExpress 2016-2017.

Additional Tips for Loading EDExpress Program File

Note the following additional tips when loading the DLReport17.dll program file to your PC workstations:

  • You must install EDExpress 2016-2017, Release 2.0 on your workstations before loading the updated DLReport17.dll file described in this message.

  • Be sure to close EDExpress 2016-2017 on your PCs before performing the download and copy procedure.

  • You must have administrator rights to the PC workstations running EDExpress 2016-2017 to overwrite the existing program file.

  • During the copy procedure, you will receive a prompt asking if you want to replace the existing DLReport17.dll file with the new version you are downloading. You should click “Yes” and allow Windows to overwrite the file.

  • If you receive a message indicating you cannot overwrite the file (usually due to a “sharing violation”), restart your computer and try again. The file may still be held in memory by Windows and considered in use until you restart.

  • If your EDExpress 2016-2017 database is installed on a network drive, and you have multiple PC workstations accessing that database, you must load the appropriate program file to EACH workstation.
