This week on "Off The Cuff," Megan, Stephen, and Allie rehash the details of Tuesday's midterm elections, and how the outcome could impact higher education policy. With Democrats in control of the House of Representatives, some think there may be potential for bipartisan cooperation and progress toward reauthorizing the Higher Education Act, the group discusses. Aside from pushing forward on policy, Democrats may also use the opportunity to increase oversight of the Department of Education by calling Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to testify more frequently. Plus, Stephen goes into what role education broadly played in the elections, and how some politicians are already looking forward to 2020.

A federal appeals court Thursday ruled that the Trump administration could not immediately end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. This decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s temporary ruling that the program must remain intact.

Join us as we assess the Student Aid Index and potential future iterations. We seek feedback from a diverse group of users from different institution types and regions who can help us identify barriers to using the tool, how the tool is being used currently, and what steps can be taken to improve the tool itself or the platform on which it runs. The end goal is to increase membership engagement and use on their campuses. The NASFAA office will be closed on Monday, November 12 in observance of the Veterans Day federal holiday. The NASFAA website and other online services will still be available, but NASFAA's Today's News will not be sent and technical and membership support will not be available until the office reopens on Tuesday, November 13.
