NEWS FROM NASFAA

"Have you ever been in a conversation with a student or a colleague when they've suddenly said something biased that made you uncomfortable?” writes Lena Tenney, coordinator of public engagement at The Ohio State University's Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, in an article for NASFAA Now. “As financial aid professionals, it is imperative to take action in these moments when bias manifests in order to create a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all people who enter our space and rely upon our expertise," Tenney explains. NASFAA Now, our annual impact report, is filled with association data, accomplishments, and compelling original content that can't be found anywhere else. Read Tenney's full article on pages 11-13 for more on how to foster an inclusive office environment for all.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Webinar Logo

In this afternoon's hour-long Policy Update webinar, NASFAA staff will discuss the impact of the midterm elections on higher education, the reauthorization progress, and the latest Department of Education updates from last week's Federal Student Aid (FSA) conference. This webinar is offered at no additional charge for NASFAA members and webinar package purchasers, but all must register in advance of the 2:00 p.m. ET event.

NASFAA’s technology offerings are constantly changing, and require staff to determine direction, components, features, interface, and user-experience. Further, NASFAA extensively tests existing and new components prior to release to ensure that data needs are met. A team of members committed to assisting in the review and testing processes for new and updated online technology features would assist staff in ensuring an efficient experience, and a smooth transition. The group will be contacted as needed through June 30, 2019. Please review the task force charter and complete the volunteer form if interested.

Leadership Conference

NASFAA's 2019 Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo is quickly approaching. The annual conference includes two days of sessions designed to help financial aid professionals grow and thrive, wherever they are in their careers, followed by an optional day on Capitol Hill where participants can advocate on behalf of their students. Attendees will have their choice of four leadership pathways, including the brand-new Advanced Topics in Financial Aid Leadership pathway. Early Bird registration pricing runs through this Friday, January 11—register to save your spot today.
