NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Leadership Conference

The 2019 Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo is quickly approaching. While we hope you'll be able to participate in opportunities to network with colleagues and build your leadership skills, we understand things may happen that can impact your ability to attend. The last day to cancel your registration and receive a refund is this Friday, February 15. If you haven't yet signed up, it's not too late. There are still spaces available in the New & Aspiring Aid Directors and Association Management pathways. Sign up now before registration closes this week.

Last week we asked you how long it had been since your last program review. Of the 95 respondents, 28.4 percent said it had been one to five years, 14.8 percent said it had been six to 10 years, 13.7 percent said it had been 10 to 20 years, 32.6 percent said it had been more than 20 years, and 10.5 percent said they didn't know. Find out how you can request a peer review through NASFAA's Standards of Excellence Review Program to catch potential issues in advance of an ED program review, and if you'd like to take more polls, head to our Poll the Pros page.

AskRegs

If the applicant is selected for verification and the IRS Request Flag is “07,” the institution needs to determine from the ISIR which tax filer—the student and/or the dependent student’s parent(s)—filed an amended return and document both the original and amended tax return information. If the applicant is not selected for verification, but there is an IRS Request Flag of “07” on the ISIR, the school must contact the applicant or parent, as applicable, and make any necessary changes to any of the data items, regardless of whether those items are required to be verified. In such cases, the school can choose what documentation it accepts to make the changes. U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

The Department of Education published in December general information regarding Title IV Aid Disbursement Reporting, Excess Cash, and Reconciliation Requirements. In this announcement, ED provides specific information to assist your school in reconciling the Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant) Program.

Federal Student Aid offices as well as some of its Title IV processors and contact centers will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019 to observe the Washington’s Birthday federal holiday.
