NEWS FROM NASFAA

As enrollment officials explore new ways to meet their institutions’ diversity goals using financial aid and scholarships, The College Board’s Access and Diversity Collaborative—in partnership with NASFAA and EducationCounsel—released a report to guide them through the legal implications of attracting students with funds tied to their race, ethnicity, and sex. “Advancing the diversity-associated mission of institutions of higher education requires attending to the imperatives of good policy and legal sustainability,” according to the report. “This guide seeks to elevate awareness of how to do that, with a focus on financial aid and scholarship policy design and execution; program evaluation; and communications.” Read the full report, which includes recommendations for policy design to program evaluation, here.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Leadership Conference

Planning for the 2020 NASFAA Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo is underway! NASFAA is looking for volunteers to join one of three task forces focused on building the program for three pathways. Members may apply to be part of the Advanced Topics in Financial Aid Leadership, Compliance Management, or Strategic Enrollment Management task forces. Members of each respective task force will participate in conference calls and emails from August 2019 through March 2020. Read the full task force charter and, if interested, volunteer by Tuesday, July 23.

Each year, NASFAA members elect representatives to sit on the Board of Directors, which meets several times per year to discuss the strategic direction of the association, gather input from members across the nation, and drive advocacy efforts, among other duties. Head to the Board of Directors page to learn more about your representatives, including National Chair Paula Luff, National Chair-Elect Brenda Hicks, and three newly-elected representatives at large: Brad Barnett, Zita Barree, and Denise Welch. You can learn more about each member of the NASFAA Board by clicking on their name.
