While there is bipartisan agreement that there should be a stronger system of accountability in higher education, there has been disagreement on how to reshape accountability as lawmakers tussle with reauthorizing the Higher Education Act. The importance of accountability in higher education is underscored by the $1.5 trillion in national student loan debt, the 1,200 colleges that have shut down in the past five years — the majority of which were for-profit institutions — and the fact that two out of five students fail to graduate within six years from either a two- or four-year institution, New America reports.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

SOE 20th

Congress requires the Department of Education (ED) to perform program reviews of all schools on a systemic basis. So if it's been a while since your last program review, you may get the call sooner, rather than later. "The Standards of Excellence Review (SOE) experience prepared us by closely mirroring a federal review, right down to the entrance and exit interviews with our president," one SOE client said. If you'd like to have a "practice review" before you get the call from ED, complete our information request form to learn more about NASFAA's peer review services.

NASFAA members are always moving ahead, whether enhancing their skills in their current roles, accepting promotions or job changes, or discovering new pathways as retirees. Have you changed jobs recently?
