It's a fraction of the total funding the federal government doles out in federal student aid, but still billions of dollars are being allocated to institutions with extremely poor student outcomes, according to a memo from Third Way, a centrist think tank based in Washington, D.C.

Based on feedback from users and financial aid professionals, on May 14, 2017 the Department will implement several enhancements to improve the FSA ID experience.

The Department has updated the record layout for the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) School Portfolio Report. This report provides a school with information about all William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) and/or Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program loans associated with its school code.

NCES is announcing revisions to the confidentiality pledge(s) it provides to its respondents under the Confidential Information Protection and Statistical Efficiency Act (CIPSEA) and under the Education Sciences Reform Act of 2002 (ESRA 2002). These revisions are required by the passage and implementation of provisions of the Federal Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2015, which permits and requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to provide Federal civilian agencies' information technology systems with cybersecurity protection for their Internet traffic.

"The nation's largest student loan servicing company Tuesday said it is on the verge of growing even bigger — but tempered the news by reporting earnings that missed Wall Street forecasts," according to USA Today.

"Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has been sending some chilling signals lately about how she plans to deal with America’s $1.3 trillion student debt burden," Slate's MoneyBox reports.
