September 1999

SUMMARY: This letter announces a series of one-day federal student aid workshops for High School Counselors and TRIO counselors. The workshops will be presented from October 1999 through January 2000. This letter also contains a list of workshop locations and dates, and provides registration procedures.

Dear High School Counselor and TRIO Counselor:

The U.S. Department of Education is pleased to announce training for high school counselors and TRIO counselors who advise students and parents on student financial assistance for postsecondary education. From October through January, we will offer forty one-day workshops nation-wide (see the enclosed schedule).

A Department of Education trainer and a local college financial aid administrator will present the training, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. There is no charge for the workshop or participant materials, but you will need to make your own arrangements for lodging, transportation, and meals. You do not need to bring anything to the training site.

Session 1 - Introduction to Student Financial Assistance Programs and General Student Eligibility Criteria.

Session 2 - Completing the 2000-2001 Free Application for Federal Student
