SAIG Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users v1.0 Now Available

August 2001

RE: Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) Host Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users, Version 1.0

We are pleased to announce the availability of the SAIG Host Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users, Version 1.0. This guide is designed to meet the reference needs of programmers and data processing staff who transmit Title IV data via a mainframe or midrange computer. The Command Line and Customization Guides developed by bTrade.com are also available for additional information regarding command line options.

What will the SAIG Host Communication Guide contain?

This guide will be a useful resource as you prepare the necessary JCL or scripts for transmitting Title IV data via the Internet. It contains the following:

  • an overview of the system
  • installation instructions
  • password update procedures
  • basic send and receive procedures with a list of keywords
  • sample JCL and scripts for HP-UNIX
  • header and trailer record information

The Host Communication Guide contains various examples of transmission JCL. We welcome the opportunity to share more examples with our users and plan to post updates to this guide on a regular basis. If you wish to share examples of your JCL or scripts, simply email them to cpswan@ncs.com.

When will the EasyAccess client software be available and how can I obtain it?

The software will be available on the SFA Download Web site in early September. You will be notified of this via a network message. We are distributing the EasyAccess Client Software via the Internet. You can download the software and the related user documentation from the SFAdownload Web site, located at www.SFAdownload.ed.gov. Section 2 of the SAIG Host Communication Guide for Mainframe and Midrange Users provides complete installation instructions.

If you have trouble opening the SFAdownload Web site or difficulty downloading the software or documentation, call CPS/WAN Technical Support at (800) 330-5947.

Note: Some organizations restrict their users from downloading via FTP sites. You may want to contact your technical support staff to obtain full FTP download rights.

How do I find out more about this project?

Communications are being distributed to the user community twice a month through the end of August 2001 and weekly throughout the migration process. Each communication will be entitled "SFA to the Internet Status Update". If you happen to miss any of the updates, all of this information will be kept collectively at www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/sfatech/sfafaq.html. We would encourage you to bookmark this location.

You can also access this from the School Portal (http://sfa4schools.sfa.ed.gov), SFATECH, or IFAP Web sites.

How will I be supported throughout the migration process?

If you have questions, please contact CPS/WAN Technical Support at (800) 330-5947, or via email at cpswan@ncs.com. There is no charge for technical support from CPS/WAN Technical Support.
