U.S. Attorney Urges 9/11 Victims To Apply for Closed Circuit Viewing of Moussaoui Trial by June 20

NASFAA has received a request from the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of Virginia to notify victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks of their opportunity to apply to view the closed circuit broadcast of the criminal trial of Zacarias Moussaoui. Moussaoui has been indicted in Virginia for conspiring to commit the crimes perpetrated on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001.

According to U.S. Attorney Paul McNulty, "On August 2, 2002, the President signed into law legislation that directs the trial court to order closed circuit televising of the Moussaoui trial for viewing by Sept. 11 victims.” The trial judge last month determined that there will be closed circuit viewing sites set up in Washington, D.C.; Manhattan; Long Island; and Newark, N. J. The U.S. Attorney's office has thus far sent applications for the closed circuit viewing to more than 7,000 Sept. 11 survivors in its victims database.

"Victims" are defined as:

  • persons who suffered direct physical harm as a result of the terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Arlington, Va. on Sept. 11, 2001; and

  • the spouse, legal guardian, parent, child, brother, sister (or other who has been determined by the court to share a relationship of similar significance), of someone who meets the standard listed above, or of someone who died, is severely injured, is incapacitated, is under 18 years of age, or has a disability that requires the assistance of another person for mobility.

To request an application, victims who meet the above criteria can call (866) 828-1834. All applications to view the trial on closed circuit television must be postmarked no later than June 20, 2003. Please send applications to the following address:
