Final NASFAA Auditor Training Seminar for 2003 Takes Place in Indianapolis, Sept. 17-19

One seminar remains in 2003 for NASFAA's Auditing Electronic Financial Aid Systems training:

  • Indianapolis, IN, Sept. 17*, 18, 19
For the second year, NASFAA has partnered with Stephen Collins of Student Financial Aid Audit Seminars to offer training for auditors (including internal auditors) who work in the higher education arena, specifically in financial aid. If you know any auditors who would benefit from this training, please feel free to forward them a copy of this announcement, or direct them to http://www.NASFAA.org/auditors.asp. Auditor Training is comprised of two sections.
  • One part - the Student Financial Aid Audit Seminar taught by Collins - provides a 2-day review of key financial aid regulatory topics and procedural requirements. Collins has been conducting this workshop since 1982.
  • The other part - conducted by NASFAA - offers an additional day of training on Auditing Electronic Financial Aid Systems. *The date of the NASFAA training in Indianapolis is September 17. You can register for the complete seminar or separately to take only the NASSAA training.

Combined, these two sections provide three days of in-depth Auditor Training. At the conclusion of the seminar, CPAs are recommended for 24 CPE credits to meet their continuing education requirements.

NASFAA developed the Auditor Training program after its Standards of Excellence review teams found that auditors -- both internal and external -- often miss problems in the financial aid office that the Department of Education finds later during a program review. Using financial aid audits as a management tool can greatly benefit financial aid operations and assist in bringing attention to issues of importance to the aid office. Working with the auditors in this manner can also help to achieve the goals of the aid program.
