NASFAA's newest research publication, "A Scan of Our Changing Environment,
2004-2005," reviews and analyzes the political, economic, and social events
and trends that may affect the future of student financial aid.
The environmental scan, developed by NASFAA's Research Committee, examines some of the political and economic realities that are likely to affect
federal and state higher education appropriations levels in the years ahead.
It also focuses on the financial realities that might influence postsecondary
students and the rapidly changing demographic characteristics of these
educational consumers.
The last sections of the report look at the economic and political
environments facing financial aid administrators on campus and within NASFAA
itself. The information from the environmental scan will be used to help
NASFAA write and implement the new five-year Strategic Long-Range Plan.
"With reauthorization of the Higher Education Act upon us, now is a good
time to get a basic understanding of the economic and other factors that will
influence our future," said Bonnie C. Joerschke, senior associate director of
financial aid at Purdue University and chair of NASFAA's 2004-2005 Research
Committee.
"The environmental scan provides a solid foundation for aid administrators
who want a summary of the economic and other realities that are affecting our
campuses, students, and political leaders," she said.
