RE: 2004-2005 SAR/ISIR Comment Codes Modified for Deadline Extensions for Students Affected by Hurricane Katrina

DATE: September 12, 2005

As recently announced in Hurricane Katrina Information - Electronic Announcement #2 (available on the Department of Education's IFAP Web site at http://www.ifap.ed.gov/eannouncements/katrina.html), the Department is extending 2004-2005 correction and document submission deadlines to December 1, 2005 for all students affected by Hurricane Katrina. To explain this change to impacted students, we are modifying 2004-2005 SAR/ISIR comment codes 125, 127, and 128 and SAR Acknowledgement comment code 9 as follows:

  • SAR/ISIR comment code 125 has been revised to state, "If you want to be considered for a Federal Pell Grant, your school must receive your SAR by September 23, 2005, or your last day of enrollment, whichever comes first. This deadline has been extended to December 1, 2005 for students who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina."

  • SAR/ISIR comment code 127 has been revised to state, "It may be too late to submit any corrections to your SAR. If you want to be considered for a Federal Pell Grant, you must submit a complete, correct SAR to your school no later than September 23, 2005, or the last day of enrollment, whichever comes first. Students selected for verification may have an additional 120 days from their last day of enrollment, but no later than September 23, 2005, to submit a complete, correct SAR for payment. The extended deadline for all students affected by Hurricane Katrina is December 1, 2005."

  • SAR/ISIR comment code 128 has been revised to state, "It may be too late for you to make corrections for this year. We must have your corrected SAR no later than September 15, 2005, or December 1, 2005 for students who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina."

  • SAR Acknowledgement comment code 9 has been revised to state, "It may be too late for you to make corrections this year. If you are still completing verification and you need to correct your information, contact your school for assistance. We must have your corrections no later than September 15, 2005, or December 1, 2005 for students who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina."

NOTE: The EDExpress for Windows 2004-2005 software will not be updated to reflect these comment code text changes. Please be aware of this when printing ISIRs from the EDExpress software.
