SASFAA Provides Information on Katrina Relief Agencies

The following information was posted to the SASFAA Listserv on September 9 by SASFAA President Guy F. Gibbs.

I am glad to be able to provide you with information related to relief agencies where contributions can be sent to assist those affected by Hurricane Katrina. I am able to provide you with information relative to Alabama and Mississippi at this time. If I obtain other information relative to Florida, I will let you know.

Monetary donations can be directed to your local Chapter of the American Red Cross. Should you donate please ask that the funds be identified for relief efforts to the following chapters:

Mississippi

Biloxi (MS Gulf Coast Chapter)
Pascagoula (Southeast MS Chapter)
Hattiesburg (South Central MS Chapter)
Laurel (Pine Belt Chapter)
Meridian (Key Chapter)

Soraya Weldon, President of MASFAA, has also indicated that contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Biloxi or Gulfport.

Alabama

The AASFAA requests that donations be sent to the association so that those schools affected might request funds for students directly affected by the hurricane. If you wish to contribute in this manner, please forward funds to:

Charles Markle, AASFAA Treasurer
Auburn University
203 Mary Martin Hall
Auburn, AL 36849

Please be sure to designate that the donation for is those students affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Buddy Jackson, President of AASFAA, has also indicated that contributions to the American Red Cross should be specifically directed to Baldwin and Mobile counties.

Our colleagues in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi have conveyed to me their appreciation for the emails, telephone calls, letters and prayers that have come their way. Please continue to keep all families affected in SASFAA and SWASFAA in your thoughts and prayers. We are blessed even through these difficult times because of the kindness of friends as well as stranger.

Thanks to all of you,

Guy F. Gibbs
