The members of NASFAA's 2005 National Conference.
These interest sessions will be of particular interest to aid administrators who are interested in issues that involve graduate and professional school programs. The sessions address legal, regulatory, and policy matters related to the administration of aid at master's, business, law, medical, dental, and other programs that deal with graduate/professional concerns; they are also of interest to the generalist aid professional. The sessions are arranged so that conferees can follow a graduate/professional theme throughout the entire Conference, or can attend only one or two sessions within the theme that most addressed their concerns and interests.
"We designed sessions that would address the major concerns that graduate/professional aid professionals have to deal with on a daily basis," said Dino Koff, director of financial aid for the Vermont Law School and chair of the 2004-05 GPIC. "We wanted to provide a wide variety of sessions that suit our colleagues' needs and allow for dialogue on policy issues on both the federal and campus level. As our mix of sessions within the graduate/professional theme shows, we have been able to meet this goal."
An additional component of the graduate/professional theme is the pre-Conference symposium, "Financial Planning and Debt Management for Graduate/Professional Students: Helping Your Students Meet Their Financial Goals," which will give aid administrators the resources they need to help their students better plan for their financial success before, during, and after their educational careers. Topics covered include: use of student loans and credit cards; budgeting; loan repayment options; and establishing professional practices after receiving degrees. The pre-Conference symposium, sponsored by the Access Group, will be held July 2 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the New York Hilton. Note: a separate registration form and fee is required to attend the pre-Conference symposium.
Other interest sessions included in the graduate/professional topical theme include:
- Regulatory Perils--Is Cost of Attendance for Students with Dependents Black and White or Gray?
- HHS Update
- Enabling vs. Empowering
- Development of an Instrument to Assess Student Loan Indebtedness on Modes of Practice in the Health Professions
- Reauthorization Panel on Graduate and Professional Issues
- Graduate/Professional Roundtable Discussion
Information is available on-line on how to register for the pre-Conference symposium and the NASFAA Conference. The pre-registration deadline is June 3.
