Planning for the 2007 conference scheduled for July 8-11 in Washington, DC continues to take shape. A preliminary schedule with session titles has been posted to the Web site along with information about our general sessions and speakers.
NASFAA has confirmed that Under Secretary of Education, Sara Martinez Tucker, will address NASFAA Conferees on Wednesday, July 11. Tucker was confirmed as Under Secretary of Education on Dec. 9, 2006. As Under Secretary, she assists Education Secretary Margaret Spellings with her duties and is responsible for helping to implement the work of Spellings' Commission on the Future of Higher Education. She also coordinates policies, programs and activities related to vocational and adult education, postsecondary education, college aid and President Bush's financial reforms for the Pell Grant.
Previously, Tucker served as President and CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, where she pursued an aggressive goal: to double the rate of Hispanics earning college degrees by 2010.
