The American Council on Education (ACE) has compiled a 10-page summary and analysis of the new Higher Education Act (P.L. 110-315) which President Bush signed into law on Aug. 14.

The ACE summary highlights selected key new provisions and is not comprehensive. The summary focuses on programs and provisions with broad application to all aspects of higher education. It intentionally excludes programs and provisions that have a narrower or more targeted reach.

The U.S. Department of Education is now responsible for implementing the new law and Department officials have announced that they are planning six regional meetings to discuss HEA implementation. These meetings will be held:

• Sept. 19 at Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX)

• Sept. 29 at University of Rhode Island (Providence, RI)

• Oct. 2 at Pepperdine University (Los Angeles, CA)

• Oct. 6 at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina

• Oct. 8 at Department of Education (Washington, DC)

• Oct. 15 at Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, Ohio
