I've faced many ethical dilemmas in my 33 years in financial aid, from the athletic director asking for my "help" to ensure a student athlete could continue to play, to the dean's office asking why I couldn't give more financial aid to the son of a member of the board of trustees. I also sometimes wonder if my packaging policies are truly helping needy students and whether we are spending our funds the right way.
Like you, I work in an environment where I'm challenged each and every day to make the right decision for the right reason. That's why I'm pleased that I registered for the NASFAA Best Practices Symposium on Professionalism and Ethics. This symposium will provide a unique opportunity to explore common issues facing financial aid administrators today.
Not only will two excellent speakers will challenge symposium participants to think about the decisions they make every day, it will also be a great opportunity to network with colleagues to discuss ethics and professionalism in a relaxed and informal environment. Even with my longevity in the profession, I know I will come home with something to help me do my job better!
It's not too late. You too can join in what promises to be a fun day of stimulating and thought-provoking discussion. Check the NASFAA Web site for complete information on locations and registration. I encourage you to register as soon as possible.
