Online Chat With Dr. Phil Day Hosted By The Chronicle Of Higher Education

On Thursday, June 26 at 12:00 noon EST The Chronicle of Higher Education will be hosting an online chat with NASFAA President & CEO Dr. Phil Day. Participants in the chat will be able to submit questions prior to the event or during the actual chat session on June 26. The full Chronicle announcement follows.

One casualty of last year's student-loan scandal was the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. The once-powerful organization lost influence and credibility after first rejecting the allegations of the New York attorney general, Andrew M. Cuomo, and then apologizing to him after it turned out he was onto something. A year later, the association's first new president in more than three decades, Philip R. Day Jr., is on a mission to restore the group's former prominence. In an interview with The Chronicle before he took over, in March, Mr. Day said he hoped to repair the group's image and re-establish it as the premier advocacy organization for student aid. Now it's your turn to ask the questions. Is the group, known as Nasfaa, being heard by federal lawmakers? Has the student-aid profession regained its lost credibility? Have Congress and the Education Department acted wisely to deal with the student-loan credit crunch? Will some borrowers still have trouble obtaining loans this year?

Before taking over at Nasfaa, Mr. Day served as chancellor of City College of San Francisco, one of the largest and most diverse community-college districts in the country. He previously served as president of Daytona Beach Community College, Cape Cod Community College, and Dundalk Community College. He will respond to questions and comments about these issues on Thursday, June 26, at 12 noon, U.S. Eastern time. Readers are welcome to post questions and comments now.

The full Chronicle of Higher Education announcement is available online with directions on how to submit questions and comments and receive a transcript of the event.
