Learn To Use IPEDS Online Data Tools To Perform Peer Analysis At The National Conference

Do you need peer, state or national data for your institution but are overwhelmed by the array of data options that exists? Come to the hands-on training session at NASFAA's National Conference that focuses on IPEDS Data Analysis System (DAS) (session #78 & #79) by Elise Miller, Project Director from NCES.

This session will be held on Tuesday, July 8 from 10:15 AM to 2:30 PM and will provide a hands-on demonstration and training on how to use IPEDS data and various online tools, including the IPEDS College Navigator and Peer Analysis System (PAS). The peer tool feature enables users to easily compare one institution to a group of peer institutions by generating reports using selected IPEDS variables. The user may create a group of peers or have the system create it. Users can select the variables they are interested in or build calculated variables from IPEDS data, which can then be downloaded into spreadsheets or databases. Users can also get a ranked list of peer institutions based on a selected variable or get a statistical summary report for the selected variables.

In addition, several report templates are available that generate packaged reports. Another feature to be introduced in the future through the PAS is graphing. A reference handout and supplemental exercises will be provided for additional training.

This is a hands-on training so participants will need to bring a wireless-ready notebook computers in order to get benefit from the hands-on experience. Remember the phrase, "When I hear it, I know; when I do it, I understand."

This session is part of the NASFAA Research Committee's effort to bring data research tools to aid administrators. Seats in this session are limited to the first 25.

The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) is the core postsecondary education data collection program for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). It is built around a series of interrelated surveys to collect institution-level data in areas like enrollments, program completions, financial aid, faculty, staff, and finances.

Mark Tuesday, July 8 from 10:15 am - 2:30 PM, bring your notebook computers and be ready for a rewarding session mining the data from this national dataset!
