Ivan Juzang, founder and president of Motivational Educational Entertainment (MEE) Productions, will be moderating NASFAA's free preconference workshop that will focus on effectively communicating with student populations that are underrepresented in higher education.
In NASFAA's Financial Aid Perspectives podcast he talks about some challenges financial aid administrators face when trying to effectively communicate with students and parents and some effective strategies to communicate in a way that will positively impact students and parents' behavior.
Juzang stresses the importance of understanding your audiences' beliefs and why they hold those beliefs as critical to developing an effective message and communication strategy.
At the free preconference workshop, Juzang will moderate a panel of students representing various populations that are underrepresented in higher education so attendees can gain some insight into their beliefs and why they hold those beliefs.
The free preconference workshop, College Access Needs You: Learn How to Bait the Hook will be held prior to NASFAA's Annual Conference on July 5, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort - NASFAA's Annual Conference headquarters.
A networking reception will be held at the conclusion of the afternoon workshop. The free workshop is open to anyone who wants to attend, but space is limited so register today.
College Access Needs You: Learn How to Bait the Hook - July 5, 2008 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
NASFAA's Student Access and Diversity Committee is hosting this pre-conference workshop to provide an understanding of diverse student populations, address the challenges of communicating with these students and how to engage them in college access activities.
Last year's college access pre-conference was so successful that we have brought back a format that attendees have expressed as being important in their work. Attendees will hear stories that will help guide them in reaching under-served populations and hear about simple, effective strategies that have been proven to work. Facilitated by Ivan Juzang of MEE Productions, the day's agenda will include:
- A panel representing "hard-to-reach" and challenging student populations
- Interactive participation that opens up dialogues between attendees and panel members
- Effective outreach strategies that can be integrated into the goals of financial aid offices
NASFAA's Board of Directors voted unanimously and enthusiastically to support college access with a generous allocation from NASFAA's Project Development Fund. No registration fee will be assessed and all materials and lunch will be served to all attendees registered for both sessions.
For more information about the afternoon workshop, visit the pre-conference workshop Web site. Please e-mail questions about the workshop to Haley Chitty.
Note: Due to the interactive nature of this afternoon pre-conference workshop, participation will be limited to the first 125 who register, so register today.
We hope to see you there.
