In a letter to members on Friday, NASFAA President and CEO Dr. Philip Day urged support for the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 (H.R. 5715). Day asked members to contact their representative in the House and urge them to support the legislation that would increase loan limits for students and provide liquidity for student loan providers.
The House Education and Labor Committee favorably reported the bill to the full House last week and the bill is expected to be considered on the House floor this week.
"It is unknown if this bill will have enough support in Congress to be passed, so it is critical that we urge lawmakers to support these provisions immediately," Day wrote in the letter. "These important safety nets will have a greater chance of succeeding if they are passed quickly. We risk too much by waiting."
