Dear Colleague:
We are pleased to announce our 2008-09 online, instructor-led training on Improving
Direct Loan Processing. This one hour and thirty minute session will be offered
twice-once each day on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 and Tuesday, April 15, 2008.
The April 8, 2008 session will begin at 2:00 pm Eastern Time.
The April 15, 2008 session will begin at 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Time.
Note: There may be a difference between your local time and Eastern

to determine your local time and its Eastern Time zone equivalent.
The Improving Direct Loan Processing training session is for participants in the
William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program who are intermediate
level users of Federal Student Aid's Web sites. The session will focus on improving
processing and resolving issues with Direct Loans using Federal Student Aid's
Direct Loan Electronic Master
Promissory Note (MPN), Common Origination
and Disbursement (COD), and Direct
Loan Servicing Online Web sites. In addition, we will provide a brief overview
of the Direct Loan (DL) Tools software. The information presented in the session
will assist a school in successfully participating in the Direct Loan Program.
The topics that will be covered in the Improving Direct Loan Processing training
session are as follows:
Processing with the Direct Loan Electronic MPN
Researching credit checks
Resolving student record issues using batch searches
Managing your school's financial information
Choosing Direct Loan and School Account Statement (SAS) options
Working with DL Tools
Retrieving reports from the COD and Direct Loan Servicing Online Web sites
Obtaining assistance with Direct Loans
Two Federal Student Aid trainers will conduct both sessions using Federal Student
Aid's distance education software, which allows you to participate without leaving
your desk. Registration is required for these sessions; to register for

For these sessions, you will need to have a computer with an Internet connection
and a separate phone line to access the audio portion of the training. Please

Note: We have recently upgraded our Distance Education System.
The new system requires the installation of new browser plug-in software to
your system for full functionality. This may take as long as 30 minutes to download
and install. You may need to contact your IT department in order to accomplish
the upgrade. We will be unable to assist you with the installation in the 30
minutes prior to the training session and ask that you take time now to install
the browser plug-ins.
The session materials will be available for download at the beginning of each
session.
