ED Officials Provide Answers To NASFAA Members' Questions Loan Program Final Rules

NASFAA is pleased to announce the release the second document in the series of questions and answers resulting from the Nov. 1, 2007 Final Rules for Title IV Loan Programs Webinars, Q&A: The Final Rules, Fall 2007: Title IV Student Loan Programs Part II. This document contains responses provided by Department of Education staff during the live question and answer portion of the Dec. 11, 2007 Webinar.

On Nov. 19, NASFAA presented its first Webinar on areas of the final regulations for the Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Direct Loan, and Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) programs issued by the Secretary Department of Education on Nov. 1, 2007. On Dec. 11, NASFAA provided a second Webinar that focused on answering questions generated by the November 19 Webinar. Officials from the Department of Education Office of Postsecondary Education also participated in the second Webinar and helped to answer participants' questions. Department of Education staff, included Team Leader of Forecasting and Policy Analysis Pam Moran, Senior Policy Analyst with Policy and Budget Development Gail McLarnon, and Director of Forecasting and Policy Analysis Dan Madzelan.

The numerous questions received during the live question and answer portion of the second Webinar were answered by both NASFAA and Department of Education staff. Shortly thereafter, NASFAA announced that it would release several documents addressing the questions posed during the Webinar. The first document, Q&A: The Final Rules, Fall 2007: Title IV Student Loan Programs Part I, contains questions from the PowerPoint slides from the Dec. 11 Webinar as well as the answers developed by NASFAA in consultation with the Department.

NASFAA will continue to review and compile responses to the remainder of the questions submitted during the Webinar and announce when they are posted to the NASFAA Web site in Today's News in the weeks to come.
