Iowa Study: Boost pay, Cut Debt To Lure Young Professionals (The DesMoines Register)
"Young leaders say officials need to boost Iowa's lagging wages and reduce student debt if they want to keep young professionals from leaving the state," The DesMoines Register reports. "'All research overwhelmingly points to Iowa's large wage gap as the key problem,' said the Generation Iowa Commission. The group, charged with finding ways to better retain young workers, says Iowa wages fall 15 percent behind the national average. The group recommended action today that ranges from new state tax credits to help reduce student debt to creating loan repayment assistance for students entering high-demand professions."
