Illinois: State Panel Gets $100 Million For Loans To College Students (The Telegraph)

"In the midst of turmoil in the credit markets, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission has come up with $100 million to lend to college students," The Telegraph reports. "'Student loans are falling to pieces,' said Andy Davis, executive director of the commission. He said he and his colleagues were looking for loans to pump into the state's student loan program but were unable to find the cash at a time when the blue-chip financial companies were in dire straits. Davis said he decided to contact a statewide credit union association to persuade them to supply the cash."
