Financial Aid in the News

Federal Student Loans Weather Financial Crisis (The Houston Chronicle)

"The nation's financial meltdown has played out from Wall Street to the halls of Congress," The Houston Chronicle reports. "But financial aid experts say college campuses - or at least the federal student loans that help pay tuition there - should remain safe through the 2009-10 school year. Private student loans, on the other hand, have been getting harder to find for months. Last month, Congress voted to ensure money for those loans will be available at least through the 2009-10 school year. Many schools discourage private loans, which have higher interest rates and fewer protections. But there are limits on how much students can borrow through federal loans, and rising tuition has increased the demand for private loans."
