"Big banks have turned their backs by pulling federal loans from two-year colleges, leaving working families scrambling for a new route to fulfill higher education hopes," writes U.S. Student Association President Gabriel Pendas in The New York Times. "Fortunately, student loans are not the only way for middle-class families to afford college. It's time for Congress to stop stalling and renew the Higher Education Act. This comprehensive legislation guiding higher education could make grants more accessible and alleviate the problems caused by big businesses concerned more with the future of their companies than the future of our country."
