SLM To Provide Fresh Loans (The Wall Street Journal)
"SLM Corp. estimated it will originate at least $20 billion of Stafford and PLUS student loans for the coming academic year after getting approval to participate in a federal program aimed at guaranteeing access to the loans," The Wall Street Journal reports. "SLM, commonly known as Sallie Mae, was the first company to get funds under the Department of Education's program. The company also said it will continue working with Congress and the president to bolster the health of the student-lending program."
