1,200 Iowa students recognized for exemplary academic achievement
Des Moines, IA., May 8, 2008 - The Iowa College Student Aid Commission has designated the class of 2008 State of Iowa Scholars. Out of 3,907 applicants, 1,200 high school seniors were selected to be this year’s Scholars.
The State of Iowa has recognized Iowa’s academically outstanding seniors for over 41 years.
"I am pleased to acknowledge the exemplary accomplishments of such a fine group of students," said Karen Misjak, Executive Director of the Iowa College Student Aid Commission. "It is important for Iowa’s youth to know academics are essential for a successful future."
The students who have been designated as 2008 State of Iowa Scholars rank in the upper two percent of their class and have achieved an average score of 29 on the ACT exam. This month, they will graduate from 296 public and private high schools located throughout the state. "We are humbled each year by the number of students who meet the high academic standards of the Scholars program," said Misjak.
"Iowans can be proud of these talented young people who have set high standards for academic achievement," Misjak said. "As we recognize their success we also encourage students to pursue future educational endeavors through Iowa’s colleges and universities."
