Summary: CCRAA Operational Implementation Guidance (CPS, COD System,
and EDESuite)—2008-2009 ISIR Reprocessing on February 15, 2008 to
add TEACH Grant Comment Code 281

As we informed you in Electronic Announcements posted to the Information
for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site on December 21, 2007 and February
5, 2008, we added a new Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education
(TEACH) Grant Program question on the 2008-2009 FAFSA
on the Web site. As of February 11, 2008, comment code 281 is now being added
to Student Aid Report (SAR)/Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) transactions
for students who submit a new FAFSA on the
Web application and answer "Yes" to the TEACH Grant question. A
reprocessing of 2008-2009 ISIRs is scheduled for Friday, February 15, 2008, to
add the new comment code 281 and associated comment text to records for students
who previously answered "Yes" to the TEACH Grant question.
Reprocessing for Comment Code 281
The reprocessing for comment code 281 will occur on February 15, 2008. The
resulting ISIR transactions, which will be sent to all schools listed on the
applicant's FAFSA, will include comment code number 281, indicating that the
applicant answered "Yes" to the TEACH Grant question. A SAR with the
appropriate TEACH Grant comment text will also be sent to the applicant. New
SAR comment 281 states:
"When you completed your FAFSA, you responded 'YES' to the question about
your plans to take coursework that will enable you to become a teacher. We asked
this question because there is a new federal student aid program for students
who plan on becoming teachers. You should go to www.teachgrant.ed.gov to learn
more and find out what steps you must take to be considered for the program.
If you cannot access the website, you should call 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243)."
How To Identify Reprocessed Transactions
There are several methods for identifying records resulting from this reprocessing,
in addition to using comment code 281:
ISIRs produced as a result of the reprocessing will include a value of "03"
for the Reprocessed Reason Code (ISIR field #174). The Reprocessed Reason
Code value of "03" will display on page 2 of the paper SAR, in the
FAA Info section.

The online Student Aid Report available to students on FAFSA
on the Web and the Student Inquiry pages of the FAA
Access to CPS Online Web site will display a Reprocessing Reason Description
stating "Reprocessed to add the new Comment 281 based on the applicant's
response to the TEACH Grant question."
New Comment Code 282 for Filers Who Were Not Presented With TEACH Grant
Question
We also informed you in the February 5, 2008 Electronic
Announcement about the upcoming reprocessing of student records for applicants
who were not given the opportunity to answer the TEACH Grant question. This
includes all applicants who filed a paper FAFSA, as well as those students for
whom the application was generated by a school in FAA
Access to CPS Online or through the EDE process. The resulting SAR/ISIR
transactions will include new comment code number 282, indicating that the applicant
has not been given the opportunity to answer the TEACH Grant question.
We are still in the process of finalizing the details of the upcoming reprocessing
to add comment code 282. As soon as these details are finalized, we will communicate
the information in an Electronic Announcement, posted on the IFAP
Web site.
