The Department of Education has posted the top 100 originators of FFELP Loans for fiscal years 2007 an 2006. Sallie Mae remained the top originator in 2006 and 2007 and nearly originated twice as much loan dollars as the number two originator, CitiBank's Student Loan Corp., in FY 2007. In addition, 2007 saw continued consolidation of loan volume origination among the top lenders. The top 10 lenders originated more than 55 percent of all the loan volume in FY 2007 and the top 100 lenders originated more than 91 percent of all loan volume in FY 2007.
