NASFAA Provides Side-By-Side Comparison Of House And Senate Student Loan Legislation
Last week Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA), chairman of the Senate's education committee, introduced the Strengthening Student Aid for All Act (S. 2815) to prevent potential disruptions in federal student loans caused by volatility in the marketplace. Earlier this week his counterpart in the House, Rep. George Miller (D-CA), introduced the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act (H.R. 5715) to also help eliminate the possibility of disruptions in federal student loans this coming academic year. While the bills are very similar, there are some significant differences. This side-by-side comparison chart highlights the differences between the two bills.
The House bill was unanimously passed out of committee on Wednesday and some are predicting a full House vote as early as next week. The Senate education committee has yet to take up the measure. The chart will be updated as the bills move through the legislative process.
