Advisory Committee Seeks Comments On Burdensome Regulations
The Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance is now accepting public comment on regulations that are duplicative, no longer necessary, inconsistent with other federal regulations, and/or overly burdensome. This activity is part of a review and analysis of federal regulations affecting higher education mandated by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.
NASFAA will be conducting a systematic review of current federal regulations to determine which regulations meet those criteria, and submitting comments to the Advisory Committee. We request that schools send NASFAA suggestions of regulations that may be included in our comments. Please forward your suggestions to NASFAA at policy@nasfaa.org. We also encourage all institutions to conduct their own review of current federal regulations and make comment to the Advisory Committee. As practicing aid administrators, you have a unique perspective to share on how overly burdensome or unnecessary regulations hamper the financial aid system and ultimately harm students.
The Advisory Committee will give priority to comments received by July 15. After receiving comments, the Committee's review panelists will provide recommendations with respect to streamlining and/or eliminating regulations.
The Committee has developed a Web site that provides information on the study.
