New Guide Provides Guidance on Helping Youth from Foster Care Complete the FAFSA

A new publication from the Casey Family Program - in cooperation with NASFAA and several other organizations - provides important information for anyone who helps youth from foster care and unaccompanied homeless youth complete the FAFSA. The new publication, "Providing Effective Financial Aid Assistance to Students from Foster Care and Unaccompanied Homeless Youth," is the first publication to be endorsed by 11 higher education professional organizations. Specifically, the guide:

  • Aims to secure financial aid for students in postsecondary education
  • Describes how to respond to new FAFSA questions 55-60 that will determine federal financial aid status for youth from foster care and the unaccompanied homeless
  • Includes a section on sensitive communications from the student perspective

The guide was developed by Casey Family Programs in cooperation with NASFAA, the California Community Chancellor's Office, Tracy Fried and Associates, and the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth.
