The deadline for students to apply for the 2009-2010 National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program is April 6, 2009.

The program, administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration of HHS, provides scholarships to health professions students in return for a commitment to provide primary health services in critical shortage areas after graduation.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law on February 17 provided additional funding for the NHSC and the program expects to be able to award scholarships to more students than it did last year. The scholarship is tax free except for the living stipend, which is set at $1,269 per month this year.
